Cobalt Bottom and a Lesson on Faith

P.S. my blog is under construction. Excuse the appearance.

How was your weekend?. Mine was awesome. Really enjoying this warm weather. There is just something great about the weather. I spent time with family and the highlight of the week was delivering the sermon in church on Sunday (I do that once in a while to fill in), and how great the service was with everything else that went on. Whatever you are believing God for, step out in faith, act on your faith and press through for your miracle. The true measure of faith is in action, speaking, doing and walking.

I was finally happy to wear this cobalt skirt to church. I keep buying all these colored skirts which are not really appropriate for work and they end up sitting in my closet. I wore it the first time to work (here), but I was conscious the whole time. Our choir uniform was cobalt and blue again and I decided to do cobalt on the bottom and add the pop of pink...or is it orchid? Anyway, I like the way it looks with the cobalt blue. When next you wear cobalt, try it with hot pink or orchid.
Have a blessed week!

The distance between your miracle and reality is action.

Summer Reading for the Small Business Owner

I'm joining my kids and making a summer reading list for myself. I must admit that my kids read more than I do. My daughter once accused me of not seeing me with a book. I do read occasionally and listen to books but not as much as I should so I'm getting back on track starting now.

Here's what on my list for growing my life, my businesses and my blog.  Developing yourself by learning takes you further in life and grows your business. I am currently reading no. 4. for business and No. 1 at the same time. Let me tell you, #Girlboss is the book to read. It's such an easy read if you can get past some of the swearing (don't know why swearing is creeping into the business world these days) and you will learn a lot.

If you have read the book or plan to read it, and if you are serious about growing your business, I will be facilitating a virtual mastermind group on the key learning points in the book and we will discuss, rub minds together and hold ourselves accountable on implementing them. It will be short and sweet. Please sign up here if you are interested and I will send you more details.

You will notice that there is no fiction listed. I wish I could add one but I honestly don't have time to read fiction right now.

mastermind group, #girlboss, grow your small business, self development, personal development, blogging book

1. The #GIRLBOSS
2. Make Every Day a Friday: How to Be Happier 7 Days a Week
3. Think and Grow Rich
4. The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: Live Them and Reach Your Potential
5. Fashion 2.0: Blogging Your Way to The Front Row

Apart from the books listed here, I have so many others I bought years ago but never read or read only half way. I know why...I did not really have a why then, I didn't have a reason, I didn't really have a purpose for reading them, even though I was big on personal development then. My purpose has been renewed and better realized now and I tell you, I've been learning in a lot of ways, including jumping into these books the past few weeks. So, if you don't really have a why or have not come to the realization that you really need to grow, why you need to go grow and improve to be successful, these books or anyone for that matter may not be of interest to you.

What's on your summer reading list?

Friday Fives: Creativity, Lovely Quotes and Love

Happy Friday and Happy love day! Here are five things that got me smiling, thinking and growing this week.

1. I'm still reading this book How Successful People Think: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life (I should be done by now) and I love the thoughts on creativity. I've never seen myself as a creative thinker and never thought I could learn to be creative. I thought people were just born to be creative. There are so many points which warrant a seperate post but here are a few phrases listed that kill creative thinking: I'm not a creative person, Follow the rules, Don't ask questions, Be practical, We've never done it this way before, It didn't work for them, We don't have time, We don't have the money etc. How many ideas have you killed because of these phrases?

"A new idea is delicate, it can be killed by a sneer or a yawn; it can be stabbed to death by a quip and worried to death by a frown. Negative environments kill thousands of great ideas every minute"

2. Whenever I take a break at work to work on Avon or this blog, I keep telling myself: "I wish I could do this all day" and then I found this quote on Instagram this week. This is one sure way to determine what you need to be doing.

 3. I just discovered Instaquote this week. I've always wondered where all the beautiful and graphic quotes that I see on Facebook came from. Here's one I created on true love. This was how I made sure that I loved my husband (and not just lusting after him) before marrying him. The bible has everything you need for life doesn't it?

4. Here is a screen shot of tweets this week from my other Twitter account. Building the Growth Studio slowly but surely.

5. Also in honor of Valentine's day, enjoy this video. How come I never heard of this guy before?

Five Lessons for Success

It was my turn to teach bible study at church last week and I thought I would share some excerpts from the teaching.  Lessons for Success in 2014.  This applies to spiritual, life and business Success.

1. Check your Net Mt 13:47. The parable in this chapter is about fishermen who caught some fish and sat down to sort through what they caught. They kept the good fish and threw the bad ones back in the sea. On a daily basis, a lot of things come our way both good and bad.  Things we see, hear, experience. Positive and negative thoughts or interactions with people. Separate the good from the bad. Keep the good and let go of the bad. We have many opportunities thrown at us every day and we need to make the right choices regarding what to keep and what to lose. Keep the ones that have eternal value and dump the others. Keep only what pertains to your destiny and your goals. Keep what aligns with the word of God and get rid of those that don't.  Not everything, not everyone, not every activity can go with you to your destination. So think about what comes your way every day and make the right choices.

2. Go Outside Mt 13:1-2. It is time to go outside. In this bible passage, Jesus went out to meet the people that were waiting after he finished teaching inside the house. The world is waiting for the manifestation of the God's Children. We are functioning only inside the church and the world is not being saved and people are not being helped. Jesus went about doing good and that is what the church is supposed to be doing today.
Jesus came to the lost sheep. We are so focused on the 99 sheep instead of the one. We are so focused on ourselves. As an individual, as families and as a church, let us be more outward. Use the platform God has given you to share the love of God. This is one thing I'm really working on this year; reaching out and sharing God's love.
As it relates to business, after you've reached out to people you are naturally comfortable with, or people in your area, go out. Get out of your comfortable and familiar zone. Although it's great to have a niche, don't limit reaching out, collaborating with, and selling your blog or your business to just people who look like you or act like you or are close to you or the same age as you. There's a bigger market out there. Go for it.

3. Stretch Forth Thine hand. Mt 12:10, 13.  In this passage, Jesus healed the man with a withered hand. He told the man to stretch forth the withered hand. He did and he was completely healed. This is faith in action. Take the first step at His word, at His prompting and He will do the rest. God’s grace is available for that thing He is asking you to do.
You don't know how much you have in you until you try. You think you can't but you can.
Many of us don't go for our dreams or do what we need to do because of lack of faith. Because we still see that withered hand. It is in stretching forth that hand that we get the victory. It is in spending that last dime that we will get our abundance. You want to start a business but you say there's no money. What if you could invest the little money you have and see what happens.
If you are waiting for the right time, the right time will never come. God works with little. He specializes in working with our faith.

4. Be a Person of Vision Prov 29:18.  Have a plan, write it down.  Anything goes if you don't have a vision, you cast of restraint. Be intentional with your life, with your day. I believe in the power of writing things down. Write the vision make it plain. If you don't have anything you're living for then anything goes. You will easily allow things in your life; like sin, lack of discipline, and useless activities. What do you want for your life, your business, your marriage, your blog, your ministry? It is only when you are intentional in all these areas that you will succeed.

5. Believe in the Impossible. Luke 1:37 and mat 19:25-26. "It is impossible with man but with God, all things are possible".  Lay your impossibilities at the feet of Jesus. Give them to Him and let Him make it possible. It is impossible for you but with God, all things are possible. Through your weakness He is strong. Things will remain impossible for us only because deep inside we don't believe or we really don't want it bad enough.

....and a bonus, Believe in yourself. This one is brought to you by Lattes and Paw Prints. I love her quote here

Layered Plaid and Skinny Cords

Happy Monday all! It was such a busy weekend for me. I was filled with so much anxiety because I had so much to do but I made it. On Sunday, we actually learnt about not worrying. My worrying and being anxious doesn't add any value. Giving it up to God and letting Him take control is what we always need to do. Every time I've been anxious about something it always never turns out as bad as I thought it would be. Can I get a witness?

This outfit just came together without any planning. After wearing it is when I realized the grey in the shirt matches the pants. These are the famous rockstar jeans from Old Navy (the cords style). I could never fit into the rockstar jeans and it never occurred to me to size up. I ended up going up two sizes with these ones.

Stripes, Cobalt and a Hint of Leopard

This is what I wore on Saturday. It was a nice fall day here in New England. And when I say nice, I mean 40 degrees nice. Everyone has finally accepted that 50 degree and higher weather will not come around again till April or May. Now we're just waiting for the snow.

I'm mixing prints here with the leopard and stripes. Wearing tall or over the knee boots with some of my skinny jeans that have a tapered leg opening plus a non tunic sweater helps balance my shape. Without them, I would have looked like an inverted triangle with this outfit.

I'm leaving you with this for the week ahead. Do not give up what is yours, do not settle for the alternative because what you are doing now is not working right, or you've hit a road block. Just because you've hit a road block doesn't mean this wasn't meant for you. Be it your business, your marriage, your dreams, your blog...whatever...you are probably at the edge of your breakthrough and you don't know it. This is what I learnt in Church on Sunday. Have a great week!

Fall Brights: Poppy, Navy and Turquoise

We had balmy weather on Friday, so I decided to wear this blazer as my jacket for the day. It had been sitting in my closet and I didn't want another season to go by without wearing it. Once winter comes around, wearing blazers will no longer be an option, at least for me.
I love the contrast between the poppy and navy. These are two nice colors to wear together.

Have a lovely week and do not let anything weigh you down. Lay aside anything that wants to steal your joy or keep you from moving forward. I am working on this myself...trying not to let anything steal my joy. At church we learnt about thanksgiving. Be thankful for everything. Even when things aren't going the way you have imagined, just be thankful. What I'm going through doesn't even compare with all the stuff I'm hearing on the news. I am grateful, thankful and awed by God's mercy on me.

P.S. Every Monday, I will start sharing a teeny bit of what I've learned through out the week to inspire you...if you don't mind.

Pastel and Neutral (Purple and Nude)

This outfit came together after trying different versions of purple and beige that I had to wear on Sunday. I'm wearing my $10 Forever 21 sweater which is still holding up well. I buy items based on what fits me for the most part. Crew neck sweaters don't work for my heavy top but when I find a brand that fits, if it is Forever 21 cheap, I go for it. I have the sweater in navy too. Worn here and here

And I leave you with this for the week: Hold on to your dreams, goals and whatever you are hoping for. Even though you feel like slipping and letting go because you are tired, or things don't seem to be working out. Just hold on. In due time, it will come to pass. And even if it doesn't, you will know that you tried and you were definitely strengthened and gotten better through the process. The process of waiting and hoping and experiencing the pain makes you stronger.
Have a lovely week.....

Red Blue and White + a $100 Giveaway

I know we are no where near July 4th but this is how my outfit came together. I wanted to wear my white pants one more time before putting them away till next summer.

If your pants give you a muffin top and on days you don't feel like sucking in your stomach or wearing spanx, choose a flowy, non clingy cotton, silk or polyester top like I did here. It's flowy yet not too baggy. This is what I did with another top when I wore the same pants here.

At church on Sunday, we learnt about getting unstuck and moving forward. Do not stay where you are. How long have you been doing the same thing over and over again? Doing the same old same old? Do something new and move to the next level. This takes courage. The message actually confirmed what I've been feeling lately. I tweeted the other day how I've been an engineer for so long but wished I had gone into marketing instead. I'm really praying for courage to move in the direction of my dreams....soon.
