Dressing Slimmer with Diagonal Stripes

If you're struggling to lose weight like I am, you can fake it till you make it with some outfits. Since I started blogging, I've been experimenting with ways to dress slimmer. If you love stripes, diagonal stripes are a good bet. They give a slimming illusion.

What do you do to fake it till you make it as far as dressing slimmer?

Work Attire - Striped Sweater

This is basically what I wear to work almost everyday in the winter and spring (spring is still kinda cold for me and my office is always cold). A sweater and pants. I work as an engineer and wearing jeans everyday would be okay but I rebel and take it up a notch and even wear skirts and dresses sometimes. If I feel I'm going to get dirty I put on my lab coat.

The heels are exchanged for safety shoes or my Mary Jane type sneakers once I get to work.

I'm always drawn to horizontal stripes which as a rule makes one look wider and bigger but I try to balance it out with wearing the right pants. With my shape, I may not be able to pull off the stripes with skinny pants. But we'll see.

My Pant Fit Chronicles

I've been wearing oversized pants for many years. I've always felt I was big so I have to buy everthing in size Large. Same thing with my skirts and tops. I never paid attention to fit until I started blogging and taking pictures of myself. I soon realized that my clothes looked too big on me and did not look flattering. Since then I've been altering all my pants. I know alterations are expensive but it needed to be done. Now I feel better with my pants on and I don't have to worry about covering my behind because another problem I have is that I don't have a big enough behind or hips to fill the pants. I also realized that another culprit is spandex. Now I don't buy anything that is more than 2% spandex. Anything higher than that stretches way too much by midday.

Pink Pleated Skirt

This is what I wore to church on Sunday. It was international praise day and I was going to wear an African attire to show you but it didn't work out. We praised God for hours in church on Sunday. That is just a teeny tiny glimpse of what it will be like in heaven. And I read in my bible today: "From the rising of the sun and until the going down of the same, the name of the Lord is to be praised". He is worthy of all praise and thanks. I hope you'all don't mind my preaching :)

I decided to wear the pink skirt and match it with the navy blue top. Slowly getting bold with color blocking.

Spring Color Blocking by the Obamas

The Obama ladies have taken color blocking to a new level. Love all the color combos. I need the boldness to try these comninations.

I've been drawn to a lot of colored skirts and pants lately. Just waiting for the opportunity and the boldness to wear them. My first attempt was to pair pink with green here

These are two recent purchases I made both from The Limited. They have a good selection of colored Skirts and Pants. Few months ago, all the colored bottoms I saw and liked on different blogs were all thrifted, now all stores are carrying them and I want them all.

Spring Cleaning for your Beauty Products

Spring is here and it's a great time to do some spring cleaning on your beauty products. How many have that eyeshadow or lipstick you bought  years ago because it's the perfect color?  Here is a guide on the shelf life of your beauty products. Take the plunge and toss if you need to and purchase fresh and new ones. Your face and body will thank you!

  • Anti-aging and acne treatments: Three months to a year. Antioxidants are easily oxidized, so be on the lookout for any changes in color.
  • Body lotion: Two to three years, particularly if it is in a pump container.
  • Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel: About three years.
  • Bath oil: One year.
  • Sunscreen and Insect repellent: Check the package for an expiration date (usually one year).
  • Mascara and liquid eyeliner: Three to four months. Make sure you are diligent about replacing these items to prevent contamination and infections.
  • Eye and lip pencils: Three to five years. Sharpen them before each use as a way to preserve them and keep them clean.
  • Lipstick and lip gloss: Two to three years ( I know, tough one).
  • Foundation: About two years. Most bottles are designed to last that long. And if you don't use it, chances are you didn't love it to begin with.
  • Perfume: About two years. To get more mileage out of a perfume, resist the temptation to display a pretty bottle on your vanity. Instead, stash it away in a cool, dark place.
  • Nail polish: One year.
  • Hairstyling products: Three to five years. Most are alcohol-based, which helps preserve the formula.
  • Bar soap: Up to three years.
  • Shaving cream: About two years.
  • Deodorant: Up to two years.

Fit and Flare

Happy Monday All!
This weekend was a busy one with our choir ministering in church on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In the midst of it all I strive not to forget the one I'm worshipping and not forget to take care of my self and my family. Here's what I wore to church on Sunday. Fitted on top and flared on the bottom to create the balance I always crave. Have a good week ahead. Expect great things and try to look and be your best in the midst of it all.
