Black and Random

Wearing all black and trying to stay warm; turtle neck, hat and all....okay, I took the hat off because it was giving me a head ache. I'm doing a Random Wednesday Post today.


1. I am still working hard to build The Growth Studio. That's why I'm not posting much.

2. I've been networking quite a bit and meeting so many lovely people, getting more ideas and learning so many new things. I wish I had done this while I had my full time job. Whether you are in a job or own a business, I encourage you to join one or two networking groups. It will grow you beyond where you are.

3. I've been thinking about my 2014 Bucket List, crossing things off and I'm getting ready to work on my 2015 bucket list. I'm also waiting for my new planner. I went with Erin Condren last year but unfortunately or fortunately, I'm doing the Passion Planner this year because my schedule and work is so different now. I thought I was going to stay with Erin Condren forever. I'm still going to use their notebooks though and I love their stickers.

4. At a networking meeting yesterday, we were asked to describe what kind of Christmas ornament we would be and why. It was amazing what all the other ladies shared. I picked Christmas lights. I want to be an example, an inspiration, a testimony of God's goodness and be able to let people know that they can be the best they can be and achieve their greatest potential. I actually wrote it down because I never really thought about that.

Going Back to Pinterest for Inspiration

Ever since I started working from home, I must confess I've been in a style rut. I've been wearing the same pair of jeans for days at a time, or if I have to go out, it's the black slacks and a sweater. One reason is because I'm home most of the time now. Cobalt Maxi For all Seasons

I never thought there would be more than two ways to wear this cobalt maxi dress. I wore it this weekend for my sister in law's baby shower. I got tired of wearing pants and wanted something more comfortable. I mentioned previously that I could wear the dress to bed...it's that comfortable. Hybrid Outfit: Black Sweater and African Print Skirt

It's been two weeks since I started working on the Growth Studio full time and I tell you, it's been busy. My house is still a mess and I still haven't gotten my nails done. These are a few of the things I wanted to do since I now have time but no, I still have so much to do to build the business. I think I finally have some time to squeeze in blogging. We'll see.

This is what I wore to church on Sunday. It's an American and African Hybrid.  There's a lot of creativity around styling the African print these days. The skirts are sometimes shorter in length and can be worn with a button down shirt, chambray, a tee or sweater, as in this case. And I'm loving my lipstick from Avon. I'm wearing the Cherry Jubilee Ultra Color Rich Lipstick. It's great for dark skin tones and lasts all day.

Green and Beige

Hello There! I've been very busy working myself out of my full time job into my full time business. Yes that's the "hint hint" I talked about in my last post. I finally quit my job to focus on the Growth Studio. So probably no more Engineer style posts. But I will still be wearing my khakis. More on that later. 

This is my second Ashton Blouse from The Limited. I also own it in red as seen here. I love the way green goes with beige. We wore this as our choir uniform a few weeks ago.

Cognac Boots and Target Tunic

It's boot season again and I finally brought my boots out of hiding. I think these ones are in their third season and they are beginning to get worn because I wear them so much. I'm beginning to love button down tunics. They are a little dressier and definitely great for my apple shape.   

Today is an exciting day for me. I will share later because I'm writing this post in a hurry. But hint hint, there will be no more Engineer Style posts....Have a great weekend!

Olive Cropped Khakis

Did I mention how much I love these Old Navy Boy Friend Khakis? I wore the navy ones here. This is my fifth pair of cropped pants from Old Navy. I think they made their cropped pants for me; they fit! They have the perfect stretch and fit over my belly and are not too big for my skinny thighs. I usually have to take in all my pants in the thigh area.
This is an outfit for the last warm days of fall. I wish the warm weather could stay a little bit longer. I'm too lazy to bring my winter clothes and shoes out again.

Here's a casual look from a few weeks ago. I had mentioned in a previous post that I couldn't wear this shirt on its own, but it looks like my body changed since the last time I said that. I wore the shirt this time thinking that I would have to layer it, but it looked okay worn alone. It would look better layered but I didn't want to go through all the fuss of layering.

Yellow and Navy and Why I Love Elbow Sleeves

Happy Sunday everyone. I hope your weekend was great. My Saturday was sort of different for a change: after choir rehearsal, we didn't have anywhere else to go so I actually got some reading in and spent considerable time on my bed. I cherish days like that. 

I love the way yellow and navy go together and I love my elbow sleeve top. An elbow sleeve top is great for balancing your shape if you are heavy on top and want to create a slimming effect. The sleeves are long enough to hide the upper arms and short enough to show some skin and not add bulk to the upper body. Long sleeves usually add a little more bulk than is needed.

Blush and Skinnies: One Outfit, Three Events

I've had this blouse from Old Navy for a while. I'd been meaning to wear it with my burgundy pencil skirt but the need for wearing that skirt never came up, so I decided to wear it with jeans last weekend. No use having something in your closet and not wearing it.  

The outfit served triple duty on Saturday. I had choir rehearsal, then went on to teach a class and then to a baby shower later in the evening.  Silky/polyester flowy blouse, skinny jeans and heels: works for any occasion and most definitely for my apple shaped body.

Lionesse Beauty Bar Ceramic Iron

Good Morning! You get to see me with crazy hair and no makeup today.

 

A big problem for me as a woman color is not being able to take good care my hair. I'm not very good at doing that and then I end up wearing extensions all the time.  My hair needs to be chemically relaxed every six to eight weeks but lack of time means I end up missing the eight week appointment. I was sent this Silk Ceramic Orange Flat Iron by Lionesse Beauty Bar to review. The straightener came in at the perfect time; I still wasn't able to make my appointment so I kept my hair in shape for a few more weeks by using the ceramic iron. 

The straightener has different heat settings, heats up quickly and helps eliminate frizz and static. My hair did remain silky and smooth for many days. It can be used for all hair types.
