Mint Fit and Flare

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you had a great holiday. Mine was fine and laid back. I honestly don't like the stress of the holidays so I just do what I can. I don't even decorate or do trees.

You can never go wrong with a fit and flare dress because it suits and flatters all body types. This one helped balance out my inverted triangle shape. I wore the cardigan to disguise my heavy top. 

My word for this year is Purpose and my theme is Amazing 2015. I want to be intentional with everything I'm doing and I want everything to be amazing. My relationships, businesses, my walk with God and my health. My bucket list for 2015 covers all these areas.

Yellow and Navy and Why I Love Elbow Sleeves

Happy Sunday everyone. I hope your weekend was great. My Saturday was sort of different for a change: after choir rehearsal, we didn't have anywhere else to go so I actually got some reading in and spent considerable time on my bed. I cherish days like that. 

I love the way yellow and navy go together and I love my elbow sleeve top. An elbow sleeve top is great for balancing your shape if you are heavy on top and want to create a slimming effect. The sleeves are long enough to hide the upper arms and short enough to show some skin and not add bulk to the upper body. Long sleeves usually add a little more bulk than is needed.

Blush and Skinnies: One Outfit, Three Events

I've had this blouse from Old Navy for a while. I'd been meaning to wear it with my burgundy pencil skirt but the need for wearing that skirt never came up, so I decided to wear it with jeans last weekend. No use having something in your closet and not wearing it.  

The outfit served triple duty on Saturday. I had choir rehearsal, then went on to teach a class and then to a baby shower later in the evening.  Silky/polyester flowy blouse, skinny jeans and heels: works for any occasion and most definitely for my apple shaped body.

Salt and Pepper

...and some red lips I might add. White skirts are hard to find, at least for me, so I've held on to this one for many many years. I almost always wear it with a black top. This was church wear for Sunday. Our uniform was..you guessed it, black and white. We all looked like salt and pepper shakers on stage.

Burgundy Peplum and Grey

Here is my outfit from Sunday. I like combining unlikely colors so I'm trying burgundy and grey for the first time here. A peplum top is always a win for any body type. I raved about this skirt here and I have remixed it a few times. Well, have a lovely rest of the week. I hope I will be back soon.

Peter Pan, Dots and Surviving in 5 Inch Heels

It was a black and white Sunday again this week. I opted for this polka dot blouse to change things up. I'm already running out of black and white combination options for our choir uniform. The sandals were a last minute choice. I bought them because they were $10 and have been scared to wear them since, after wearing them once, but I survived wearing them again on stage during praise and worship at church. Thank God for heels with platforms. Everything I'm wearing, expect the bag is from Target.

Favorite Shoe store

I love shoes and I love getting most of my shoes from Nine West. I wear my pumps mostly on Sundays for church and since I'm on my feet for almost an hour on stage, comfort is key. Nine West shoes are comfortable and they offer great service: Free and fast shipping and a reward program that keeps me going back to get more shoes.  
Here are some of my picks for you in case you are looking for shoe shopping ideas. I own the silver version of the leopard pumps and the burgundy version of the grey pumps is what I have on in the picture below. (I knew this photo would come in handy one day. The rest of the shoot didn't come out right but I saved this picture just in case). You cannot go wrong with leopard and grey both of which are hard to find. The grey goes with anything and the leopard pumps adds a pop to any outfit.  I also love Nine West hand bags. The satchel is another favorite of mine and I have it in hot pink/radiant orchid as shown in this post from last month.   What's your favorite shoe store?

Blue Circles

Every weekend in July has been a party weekend. Birthday parties here and there. I wore this to a 60th birthday party on Saturday, a change up from the african attire I wore the week before (posted last week here). The skirt is a New York and Company find. I try to keep myself from that store because they always have something I want. Luckily they don't have their stores everywhere and I don't enjoy shopping their online store, so that saves me.

I need to get back to resting mode because too much going on I tell ya. My brain is on accelerated mode and my body is beginning to be affected. So this week, I'm trying to rest as much as I can when I can.

What I'm learning in the past few days is to be patient and whatever I'm frustrated with and any kind of progress I think I'm not making is just God's way of making me stronger and to prepare me better for what is to come. This is a little contradictory to what I posted earlier this week but the key is balance. Never go to the extremes. Never over do it. You can slow down and wait and listen sometimes so that you clearly know what to do next.

Another African Attire

I wore this to outfit to a birthday party over the weekend. It's custom made and it's called an aso ebi (ashor ebi) which means many friends of the celebrant had the same fabric in different styles. As you know I'm originally from Nigeria and I still strongly cherish my heritage and have family and friends from Nigeria here. A lot of parties and weddings are done Nigerian style and you will almost often find people wearing Lace or Ankara (another type of fabric) in different styles.

I'm without my head tie (gele) in the first picture because I'm not skilled in tying it on my head. I usually take my gele along with me and find someone to do it for me.

My Red White and Blue

Here's my version of red white and blue. I just had to jump on the band wagon and do a red white and blue outfit. I wore this to church on Sunday; it's also a great summer outfit for work if you work in a corporate setting. We stayed home all day on July 4th because it was raining.  We had a hurricane warning so no plans were made. It was a nice relaxing day and I finally put all my winter clothes away.

P.S excuse the bad picture quality. My camera broke and I'm using a borrowed one and still need to figure the settings out.

Life doesn't give us what we want. We have to GO and get what we want out of life!

Hot Pink and White Polka Dots (It's a Remix)

I've always worn red or black with black and white polka dots and wanted to try a new color. I guess any color goes with black and white polka dots. This is a modified version of our choir uniform. I was supposed to wear the hot pink with black but opted for the polka dots because I wasn't going to be on stage. I'm remixing the blouse today, as shown below, and the skirt remix was featured in a previous post as shown here. What's your favorite color to wear with black and white polka dots?
